the bell-shaped bucket hat, explained
Strictly speaking, our hat is a bell-shaped bucket hat. If you've never thought about the difference — most people haven't — here it is.
bucket vs. bell
A classic bucket hat has a flat top: a round crown panel, straight sides, a short angled brim. Fisherman heritage, 90s hip-hop, festival staple.
A bell hat swaps the flat top for a dome crown — panels curve continuously from the peak — and the brim flares downward and slightly out, like the lip of a bell. The silhouette reads softer and rounder, closer to the head.
why we chose the bell
Two reasons. It frames the face instead of sitting on top of it — the flared brim throws a lower shadow line, which is most of why people look better in it. And a dome crown is less forgiving to sew: six panels have to meet cleanly at the peak, so the shape only works if the factory is precise. Ours is. If a seam isn't straight, it doesn't ship.
